WACAN members please join me in welcoming Molly McClure of Catalyst Project to WACAN.org's online Forums. Over the next two weeks Molly will answer questions and dialogue with WACAN members about Catalyst Project. If you don't know Catalyst Project, maybe you should. And if you do know Catalyst Project, maybe you should let them know. Log in and join Molly and other WACAN members in discussion.

Catalyst Project is on the verge of launching an important project of white anti-racist education and training. I liken it to a moment of 19th century abolitionist history, when Theodore Weld assembled the 70 "Lane rebels," students under his educational influence, who left their formal schooling and set forth to spread the anti-slavery cause across the North. Catalyst Project has drawn from a sizeable pool of applicants to select a nationwide group of 35 white anti-racists who will undertake a 4-month education and training program under Catalyst Project's guidance. Is Catalyst Project the organization to do this? Yes, WACAN thinks so.

Catalyst Project needs financial help to do their work. Please give them a donation if you can manage it. Make an online donation at www.collectiveliberation.org or send a check made out to Catalyst/Tides Center to 522 Valencia St. #2 San Francisco, CA 94110.

WACAN editor arrested, Part 2

The City of Plainfield, NJ has officially apologized to the "Plainfield 4" of which WACANupdate editor, Jeff Hitchcock, was one. The reason? No one can say for sure, but the determination of the People's Organization for Progress was probably the major factor. Charges have been dropped and a promise made to expunge records. The city has committed to meeting with POP to discuss writing a new ordinance. Here's a story about the incident, and here's a story about the pivotal moment when a pending resolution was announced.
