WACAN uses password protection for entry to the site. People must register as members. Becoming a member means that you:

• affirm WACAN's statement of beliefs
• register your real name and contact information with WACAN
• agree your real name and contact information will be available for viewing by other WACAN members

On WACAN you can use a screen name. But your real name and contact information will be available for other WACAN members to view. Anonymous postings and the use of screen names that cannot be connected to real persons will not be used. If we are to form a real community dealing with real concerns, we need to be identified to one another. Anonymous postings encourage disruptive behavior and excuse the posting person from being accountable to the community at large. WACAN will not make your name and contact information available outside the WACAN community without your explicit permission.

To log into the site, you will need to use a screen name and password. WACAN is not a high security site, but password protection will discourage most of those who would otherwise enter the site without being registered.

You must affirm the WACAN statement of beliefs. These are the prevailing, community-supported beliefs in WACAN. Members should assume other members affirm the beliefs, and then take the discussion from there. WACAN has the right to operate an online space in which belligerent and oppositional stances to our beliefs are not present. Quite simply, we encounter enough of that in the world at large. While we encourage spirited and critical discussion, we will hold members to their affirmation as a community norm.

No system of security is perfect. WACAN will take the above steps, and we expect this will eliminate nearly all of the problems associated with online sites that allow anyone in. However, we cannot promise protection from sophisticated techniques by computer hackers, civil authorities on fishing expeditions, or people who falsely affirm our statement of beliefs to gain access. This says nothing more than the obvious to those who would use such techniques. To our members, we recommend any information you want held completely confidential at all times from all people not be made available on WACAN. Please gauge your participation accordingly.

• White supremacy has shaped the history, institutions and culture of northern North America (US & Canada).
• The present mainstream culture and institutions of northern North America preserve a status of privilege and advantage for white people and impose a status of disadvantage and oppression on people of color.
• The racial structure and status quo of northern North America is a white problem. White people created it and it remains in place because of the active and tacit support of white people.
• White people have a responsibility and moral imperative to work collectively with one another in alliance with people of color, to transform the racial structure of northern North America from one centered on white values to one centered on multiracial values.
