A final word

December 12, 2007

EDITOR'S NOTE: I was inaccurate and exclusive in my use of the term "co-ed" as pointed out so clearly by this week's writers. I will drop the word from my lexicon and I apologize for any bad feelings it may have aroused -- the Editor. [From last week's issue, when the editor apologized for using sexist language]

I strongly support your commitment to appropriate language. Consider also that in political terms, the point of an apology is not to repair individual's bad feelings that may have been aroused - but a recognition that you were ignorant of the politics of a particular word or phrase - know it now - and will make the appropriate changes. What do you think?
